Background

The L3/35 or Carro Veloce CV-35 was an Italian tankette that saw combat before and during World War II. Although designated a light tank by the Italian Army, its turretless configuration, weight and firepower make it closer to contemporary tankettes.

It was the most numerous Italian armoured fighting vehicle and saw service almost everywhere the Italians fought in World War II but proved inadequate for modern warfare, with its armour being too thin and weak machine gun armament.

Hungarian CV-35s were used in the invasion of Yougoslvia in April 1941 and also in Operation Barbarossa, the German-led invasion of the Soviet Union.

They were also later issued to the Hungarian Gendarmerie. Ten saw combat in Budapest and were destroyed in the fighting to reclaim the Racecourse Airfield.*

The kit shares most of its sprues with the earlier releases. The main difference appears to be the new photo-etched fret and the decal sheet.

The kit is broken down conventionally with multi-part "flat pack" lower hull and a one-piece forward upper hull.

The small crew compartment is fully fitted out with seats, controls, stowage, bulkheads and a big transmission.

The engine compartment is similarly detailed with very nice engine, circular radiator and plumbing.

If you are planning to spend some time painting and weathering the interior, you will be pleased to see that the hatches may all be posed open.

A raised cuploa is included as an option for the Command tank.

Running gear is nicely done.

The tracks are link-and-length, which will significantly speed assembly in this traditionally fiddly area.

Clear parts are supplied for headlight lenses and vision blocks.

Markings are provided for two vehicles in three colour camouflage.

Decals are in register and colours look good.

A small errata decal is included too.

Conclusion

This is another welcome addition to Hungarian armour subjects in 1:35 scale. Keep ‘em coming Bronco!
